Autumn Leaves Are Falling Down (Tune: London Bridge)
Autumn leaves are falling down,
Falling down, falling down.
Autumn leaves are falling down All over town.
Additional verses:
The wind can blow them round and round…
They're drifting gently to the ground…
Take a rake and rake them up…
Make a pile of leaves and jump right in…
Five Little Acorns (Tune: Five Little Ducks)
Five little acorns swaying in a tree,
Hanging from a branch as high as can be.
Along came the wind and blew one away.
Four little acorns are left to sway.
(Repeat with four, three two, and one acorn)
Down came a squirrel from high in the tree,
Searching for food as fast as can be.
He saw those acorns tasty and round,
And hid them in a hole that he dug in the ground.
I’m A Little Scarecrow (Tune: I’m A Little Teapot)
I’m a little scarecrow,
Raggedy and word,
I wear a hat,
And my shirt is torn.
When the crows fly here,
I wave a and shout,
“Away from my garden, now get out!”
Leaves Are Falling (Tune: Jingle Bells)
Leaves are falling, leaves are falling,
One fell on my nose!
Leaves are falling, leaves are falling,
One fell on my toes!
(Repeat: one fell on my head, yellow orange and red, etc)
Leaves On The Tree (Tune: The Wheels On The Bus)
The leaves on the trees turn orange and brown,
Orange and brown,
Orange and brown,
The leaves on the trees turn orange and brown all over town
The leaves on the trees come tumbling down,
Tumbling down,
Tumbling down,
The leaves on the trees come tumbling down all over town.
The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish,
Swish, swish, swish,
Swish, swish, swish
The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish all through the town.
The Leaves Are Falling Down (Tune: The Farmer In The Dell)
The leaves are falling down
The leaves are falling down
Red, yellow, green, and brown
The leaves are falling down
Rhymes:
Fall Leaves
(Hold up five fingers and put a finger down each time a leaf falls.)
Five fall leaves, five and no more
The caterpillar ate one; now there are four.
Four fall leaves; that's easy to see.
Along came a rainstorm; now there are three.
Three fall leaves; nothing much to do.
A big wind blew; now there are two.
Two fall leaves; that's some fun.
I glued one on my paper and now there is one.
Hang on, pretty fall leaf!
Your branches won’t break.
You’re one less leaf for me to rake!
Five Little Leaves
Five little leaves on the tree next door
One fell off and then there were four
Four little leaves all over the tree
One fell off and then there were three
Three little leaves where the wind blew
One fell off and then there were two
Two little leaves sitting in the sun
One fell off and then there was one
One little leaf in the tree all alone
The wind blew and blew now there are none!
Flannel Boards:
Fall Is Not Easy by Flannel Board Fun
Fall Leaves
Each child pulls a leaf off the tree and places in a pile at the bottom of the tree.
Five Little Leaves
5 little leaves in the tall tall tree
As bright and pretty as they can be
Along came the wind
Blowing all around
And one bright leaf
Fell to the ground
(Four little leaves…)
Blue Is The Sky
Blue is the sky
Yellow is the sun
Silver are the stars
When the day is done
Orange is the leaf
Brown is the tree
Red is the apple
For you and me
Little Bird, Are You in the Green Tree?
Guessing game. Create 4 trees of different colorings. Tuck a bird behind one. Say, “Look at all the trees with different color leaves! I wonder where Little Bird is. Little Bird, are you in the brown tree? Where’s the brown tree?” Lift the brown tree and continue until found.
Acorn Hunt Guessing Game
Where is the acorn? Is it behind the sunflower? Behind the pumpkin? Behind the leaf? Behind the apple?
Misc Activities:
Discuss
what happens at the beginning of fall (cooler days), the middle of fall (leaves change color) and the end of fall (shorter days, leaves fall off)
Provide children with a variety of leaves and magnifying glasses to get up close.
Take a vote:
Is fall your favorite?
List the four seasons on a chart and ask kids to vote on their favorite.
Talk about the word “autumn.”
Sound out different parts of the word. Say them separately and then together. Slow at first then faster. Do the same with “season.”
Rhyme
Help children think of words that rhyme with “fall” like call, ball and tall. Try rhyming with “leaf” too.
