The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Left no crumbs
I devoured this in two evenings.
The Book Eaters is science fiction with a little hint of fantasy. There are people who eat books, gleaning all knowledge from the text. There are also people who eat minds, absorbing everything that makes a person a person. And then there are knights who keep everyone in line.
I liked Our main characters very much. Devon and Cai were complex and simple. Boiling down to one driving force: the cost of love. The plot was a really good pace. I found myself saying “just one more chapter” instead of saying “just one more page” like I would with other drier scifi. I also didn’t speed read at all. I had to take in every little detail and truly devour the words.
This is a strong debut for Sunyi Dean. I’m excited to see what other worlds there are in store for us to explore in the future! 4.5 stars from me.
